Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a good swimmer?

Coventry Scuba Diving School Trainer Steve Answering QuestionsTo become a Scuba Diver, you need to be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills, so your instructor will ask you to do some swimming and floating - nothing extreme (200 metres and a 10 minute float/tread water), just enough to determine you have the basic swimming abilities.

How fit do I need to be?

Anyone of average fitness can learn to dive.  A medical assessment form is completed before the course can be undertaken.  Your GP or a specialist Dive Doctor should evaluate any potential issues.  In some cases a Medical Fitness to Dive Certificate may be required.  You will be required to sign a Medical Statement Form prior to training.

Is there an age limit?Coventry Scuba Diving School Instuctor Anwers Questions

The minimum ages for Scuba Certification are 12 years for the Junior Open Water Diver (adult supervised diving) and 15 years for the Open Water Certification.  These certifications show that you have successfully completed the course according to the training standards and requirements established by PADI.

Your certificate is issued as a card (credit card size) that shows your level of certification on one side; your photograph, name, date of certification and PADI number on the other.
