Preparing for a dive

The PADI Divemaster Course
This course consists of three phases.
      Phase 1 - Knowledge Development
      Aims
To develop professional level knowledge, of diving theory and to pass examinations in the following 8 areas:
      1) The Recreational Dive Planner
      2) Diving Physics
      3) Diving Physiology
      4) Supervising Students in Training
      5) Skills and the Environment
      6) Dive Management and Control
      7) Dive Planning
      8) Diving Equipment
       
      Phase 2 - Diving Skills Development and Stamina Exercises
      1) 18 basic scuba skills to demonstration standards
      2) Diver rescue skills
      3) Stamina exercises:
      400m swim
      800m swim fin
      100m tired diver tow
      15 minute tread water (last 2 minutes to be completed with hands out of
water)
       
      Phase 3- Practical Application
      Problem solving skills
      Exchange of scuba whilst buddy-breathing from one regulator, 'scuba' meaning regulator, BCD and cylinder plus mask, fins and snorkel.
      Supervising students in training
      Working with students during 'confined water' and 'open water' training. Aiding with logistics and equipment issue. In water assistance of instructor to develop problem-recognition skills and learn how to prevent problems occurring.
      Form an emergency plan for a local dive site. The plan is to include:
      1) Relevant telephone numbers ( D. A. N. UK, D.D.R.C., H.M.S.Vernon)
      2) Location of nearest telephone
      3) Names of trained First Aid personnel
      4) Location of alternative recompression chamber
      5) Names of qualified chamber operatives
      Mapping exercise
      Create a map of a local dive site. The map is to be of A3 size, in colour and accurate, with emergency action plan on the reverse of the map.
      It is suggested this will take six or more dives in order to obtain all the relevant information.
